Himachal plans CBSE schools, new teacher cadre

Himachal to set up 100 CBSE-affiliated schools and new teacher cadre, says CM

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that the state government is setting up 100 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)-based schools in the first phase. A separate cadre of teachers will also be created for these schools to ensure quality education and better management. The Chief Minister made these announcements during his visit to Mamligh in Solan district on Tuesday. He also declared that Mamligh sub-tehsil would be upgraded to a full tehsil and that a new public works department (PWD) sub-division would be opened there.

New CBSE-based schools and education reforms

During his visit, Chief Minister Sukhu inaugurated and dedicated development projects worth ₹27.43 crore for the local area. Addressing a large public gathering, he said that the state government is focusing on improving education quality, especially in rural regions. To help students from remote areas compete confidently in future challenges, the government is opening Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools in every assembly constituency.

He explained that construction of one such school has already started in Mamligh. In the first phase, 100 schools affiliated with the CBSE are being established across Himachal Pradesh. These schools will have specialized subject teachers, and a separate cadre will be created for them. The Chief Minister said this move will help bring accountability and professionalism among teachers while maintaining a consistent quality of education. Students in these CBSE-based schools will also have a distinct dress code to create a unified identity.

To support local education infrastructure, Sukhu announced ₹50 lakh for the construction of the school’s roof and ₹50,000 for promoting cultural activities among students. He said these efforts aim to boost the confidence and creativity of rural children.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s focus on improving administrative efficiency through digital reforms. He mentioned that “Revenue Lok Adalats” are being held across the state to help citizens resolve land-related issues easily. Additionally, the government has started a pilot project called “My Deed,” which allows people to register their land online without visiting revenue offices multiple times. This project aims to bring transparency and save people’s time.

Focus on health, economy, and transparency

Speaking about the health sector, Sukhu said that the government is actively recruiting doctors and paramedical staff to strengthen hospitals and primary health centers. He criticized the previous BJP government, alleging that it only built hospital buildings without providing proper staff or modern facilities. In contrast, the present government is investing ₹3,000 crore in advanced medical technology across the state.

He said that Himachal’s health institutions are being upgraded to match the standards of AIIMS Delhi. Robotic surgeries have already begun at Chamiyana and Tanda hospitals, marking a significant step in medical modernization. The government has also approved ₹75 crore to set up automated laboratories in Chamiyana’s super speciality hospital, IGMC Shimla, and Tanda Medical College. These labs will enable multiple tests using a single blood sample, saving time and improving diagnostic accuracy.

Sukhu stressed that the state’s priority is to strengthen the rural economy and make farmers self-reliant. The government is introducing several initiatives to help farmers adopt new techniques, improve productivity, and secure better prices for their produce.

He also said that the state government has adopted a “zero-tolerance” policy toward corruption. Referring to past controversies, he alleged that the previous BJP government had caused major financial losses to the state by allotting 5,000 bighas of land for only ₹14 crore under five special industrial packages. The actual value of this land, he claimed, was around ₹1,000 crore. He further stated that investors were given free electricity and water under these deals, which severely hurt the state’s finances.

Sukhu pointed out that Himachal Pradesh suffered major revenue losses after the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The Union government had compensated the state until July 2022, but after that period, the support was withdrawn. He added that the previous BJP-led government had received an additional ₹50,000 crore in compensation funds but failed to use it for public welfare.

Now, the present government, he said, is forced to take loans to repay the debt accumulated by the previous administration. Despite financial challenges, Sukhu assured that his government remains committed to improving education, healthcare, and rural development.

The Chief Minister concluded his address by reaffirming his focus on transparency, modernization, and accountability. “Our goal is to create a Himachal where students in rural areas get the same quality of education as those in cities, where healthcare is world-class, and where every citizen benefits from technology and good governance,” he said.

Through the establishment of 100 CBSE-based schools, digital land registration initiatives, and modern medical facilities, Sukhu’s government aims to build a more progressive, efficient, and corruption-free Himachal Pradesh.
